MARVEL News: Agent Carter Cancelled and MARVEL’s Most Wanted not Picked Up

Agent_Carter

It has come as no surprise but still sad to read that ‘Agent Carter’ has been dropped by ABC after two seasons. The writing was on the wall when lead star Hayley Atwell signed to star in new ABC series ‘Conviction’ and the unlikely ability to film two TV shows at same time. Poor ratings for second season is being blamed but the show was a hit with fans as it told the adventures of Peggy Carter’ after WW2 and leading to the foundation of SHIELD.

The proposed spin-off show ‘MARVEL’S Most Wanted’ failed to be picked up after its pilot episode. After their exit from Agents of SHIELD, Most Wanted was going to focus on the pairing of Bobbi Morse aka Mocking Bird and Lance Hunter played by Adrianne Palicki and Nick Blood. Time will tell if they are brought back to Agents after it was confirmed for a new season.

During a recent interview with Atwell for British tabloid, The Telegraph, Atwell has all but confirmed that Cooper and the character of Howard Stark will be a part of her new series:

“He’s incredibly naughty. So I’m going to start the pranks as early as I can. He will come up with some very good ones, too.”

Quickly following up on the announcement that ‘Agent Carter’ has been picked up for a full TV series after the popularity of it’s MARVEL One Shot short film, ABC have released its first artwork above, as well as a new synopsis for the TV show, which is really no different from the One Shot tone.

“It’s 1946, and peace has dealt Peggy Carter a serious blow as she finds herself marginalized when the men return home from fighting abroad.

Working for the covert SSR (Strategic Scientific Reserve), Peggy must balance doing administrative work and going on secret missions for Howard Stark all while trying to navigate life as a single woman in America, in the wake of losing the love of her life, Steve Rogers.”

MARVEL News: Agents of SHIELD Gets 2nd Season, Agent Carter to Full Series

Agents of Shield

There has been huge speculation over the future of MARVEL’s ‘Agents of SHIELD’ TV series. Ratings have been hit and miss for this TV series used to bridge the gaps between ‘Avenger’ big screen films and is approaching its season finale next week. Joss Whedon, who controls the Avenger film universe and also ‘Agents of SHIELD’ even commented on the reality of what happens should the show not be renewed for a second season. Well over night, ABC have confirmed that it will in fact get a second season next year, making it a big part of the Phase three of Avenger Films following ‘Age of Ultron’.

As their tweet also announces, MARVEL will be producing a full TV Season based on ‘Agent Carter’. Fans of Captain America will recognise her as the British agent involved in the Super Solider Serum programme which created the First Avenger, Captain America. Carter was also a love interest for Steve Rogers, and featured in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, where Steve visits Carter in hospital, 50 years after Cap was frozen in ice.

MARVEL filmed a “One Shot”, a short film produced as a DVD extra for Iron Man 3, which tells the story of how Carter becomes the head of SHIELD following the War and loss of Captain America. This will no doubt serve as a prequel to the Avenger Universe and will tie in with the HYDRA storyline used in ‘The Winter Soldier’ and formed the basis of the main storyline running through the late stage of ‘Agents of SHIELD’.
