CW President Mark Pedowitz has confirmed that their proposed TV series ‘Amazon’, will not be going ahead after all. Set as a prequel series for the Wonder Woman character, it was first talked about in 2012 and subsequently went through script changes to do a pilot for the series, but now the CW network has ended its interest in the show that would have been known as ‘Amazon’.

Pedowitz speaking at the Television Critics Association press tour said:

“We did not go forward with it. It all depends on the script. We were very careful with Arrow and we’re being very careful with Flash. These are iconic characters so we’re going to be very careful with Wonder Woman. You only get one shot before you get bit.”

CW have indeed been very careful with their very well received show ‘Arrow’, which has just returned from its end of 2013 break. Arrow has served as a much darker less “teeny” series compared to Smallville and with the spin off series focused on ‘The Flash’ heading to Pilot filming and series pick up, it is probably wise not to try and do too much with the main DC characters. Another influence could be the fact that Wonder Woman will feature in the Man of Steel Sequel, yet to be actually given a title yet but is known to be a Batman Vs Superman story which will no doubt lead into a full on Justice League movie. With Wonder Woman starring in that story, it is probably very wise not to have a TV series that will not be linked to the movie.
