There are two almost running jokes in video games, first is the demand for Half Life 3 and the second is the constant “oh…The Last Guardian has been delayed again…..doh”. Well today it has happened again as the developers of The Last Guardian took to the official Playstation Blog to announced that yes indeed once again, the release has been delayed for another few weeks and will now release on December 7th (9th in the UK).
The following statement was posted earlier today:
Hello PlayStation community. The Last Guardian development team is fast-approaching major milestones in production and has made the tough decision to delay the release of The Last Guardian by a few weeks. The Last Guardian will launch on 7th December 2016, across Europe and 9th December 2016 across UK & Ireland.
Fumito Ueda, gen DESIGN and JAPAN Studio have a wonderful vision for The Last Guardian’s touching, emotional journey of friendship and trust, and we want to deliver the most polished experience possible for our fans who have supported us for so long.
A delay is a difficult decision, particularly with this game, but we have encountered more bugs than anticipated while in the final stages of development. To ensure that The Last Guardian delivers on the experience that the game’s creators have envisioned, we need to take the extra time to work on those issues.
Our development continues to push itself to the fullest and we look forward to revealing new content towards the launch.
Reaction has been somewhat diluted by the almost expected delay news regarding this game, and it is clear in the comments under the blog post that many fans are beyond frustrated with this saga now, and something Sony may want to review when it comes to their own exclusive releases which have all suffered some form of delay in recent months. Gran Turismo Sport has been delayed indefinitely at this point and E3 surprise “Horizon Zero Dawn” saw its own release date quickly slip from a late 2016 to early 2017 after the reveal at E3 2016.
