Can the living be trusted on this new frontier? As Javier, a young man determined to protect his family, you meet a young girl who has experienced her own unimaginable loss. Her name is Clementine, and your fates are bound together in a story where every choice you make could be your last.

The Walking Dead: A New Frontier will act as both a new beginning for players fresh to the series and unfamiliar with Clementine, as well as a continuation for players who have experienced Seasons One and Two. Players new to the series will be able to start a story that is tailored to this new beginning. Players continuing onward from prior seasons will have multiple options for quickly configuring their tailored backstory, or importing past save files from various platforms. VideoGame News: Telltale’s The Walking Dead Season 3 to Release November

The Walking Dead S3

During the Telltale panel at PAX West, the release date for the third season of their ‘The Walking Dead’ game series was announced. In a statement below, Telltale detail what this third outing has in store for fans….

Fellow Survivors,

During our panel at PAX West today, Telltale took the stage to deliver some additional details surrounding the highly-anticipated third season of  The Walking Dead.

Since its unveiling at E3 in June, the title and release window for the next season of the series have been tightly under wraps. Today, we can announce that ‘The Walking Dead: The Telltale Series – A New Frontier’  will be premiering this November on consoles, PC/Mac, and mobile platforms. The series will also be available for purchase on a special ‘Season Pass Disc’ for consoles, which will include the premiere episode for the third season, as well as access to all subsequent episodes in the five episode season for download as they become available.

“This third new season will serve as both a continuation of what’s come before in our story, as well as an all-new beginning set nearly four years after the outbreak events of Season One,”  said Kevin Bruner, Co-Founder and CEO of Telltale Games.  “As a harrowing and horrific drama, ‘A New Frontier’ will explore beyond what it means to survive in a world ravaged by the undead, and will see our characters confronting the new rules of order and justice in a land being brutally reclaimed and rediscovered by what’s left of humanity itself.”

Players will take control of series newcomer Javier, a man struggling to keep his family together in the new world, while also playing as Clementine, now a teenage survivor holding secrets of her past while fighting to protect family of her own.

“When we began this series, we explored what it meant to protect a character like Clementine at all costs,” said Kevin Boyle, Executive Producer on the series. “Years later, meeting her for the first time, Javier will begin to unravel the mystery of who Clementine has become, as her story intersects with his – both of them still driven by the things they value most long after society’s collapse.”

‘The Walking Dead: The Telltale Series – A New Frontier’ will be premiering this November. For more news and information on the third season, stay tuned to telltale.com, follow @telltalegames on twitter, and on follow our page on Facebook.com/TheWalkingDeadGame.

VideoGame News: TellTale reveal more of The Walking Dead Season 3 at SDCC

Telltale TWD S3

In celebration of SDCC this week, Telltale joined friends at Skybound Entertainment live on stage to discuss a few more details on our upcoming season of The Walking Dead.

Eagle-eyed fans will recognize that the poster revealed today is an homage to the original poster for The Walking Dead when the concept was first shown at SDCC in 2011. In contrast to the original, Clem is no longer being protected, and stands shoulder to shoulder with mysterious newcomer Javier. We’ll be sharing some details later this summer on how you may be able to get your hands on a special limited-edition run of this poster.

The Walking Dead‘s Creative Director Dennis Lenart from Telltale was joined by Melissa Hutchison (voice of Clementine) to share a few more details about the upcoming season, and tried their best not to spoil the story that’s yet to come.

What they could share was your first new look at the season since it was revealed at E3 last month. In this first shot, you’ll see Javier and Clementine making their way through a walker-infested slaughterhouse. Remember, you’ll be playing as both characters, although you may not be playing each character within the same frame of time…

Another unique aspect of this third season is that while it absolutely continues the story of the previous two seasons, it also serves as a new entry point for fans who’ve yet to be caught up to speed. Players starting with this third season will be introduced to young survivor AJ, who fans will recognize as the son of Rebecca from Season Two – and we can confirm that he will be making an appearance in this season as well. So players who are new to the series will have a chance to learn more about Clementine’s backstory, while at the same time, those who have played previous seasons will have a story that’s uniquely tailored to the diverging paths they’ve taken in the past.
Lenart also discussed the importance of playing as Javier, and how the team was able to create a character without any prior relationship with Clementine. This will provide an interesting opportunity for players to meet a character they may have helped shape. They’ll also have a chance to play as a survivor fresh to the series, who is currently struggling to keep his family together in the face of the undead apocalypse.

Stay tuned for more news as it happens on this upcoming third season, as we all gear up towards the premiere coming later this fall!

Xbox One News: Team 17 Bringing ‘The Escapists: The Walking Dead’ to Xbox

SavedPicture-201578155538.jpg

Team17 have today unveiled that they are developing and publishing The Escapists The Walking Dead, a new game in collaboration with Skybound Entertainment.

Merging the award-winning, smash-hit, indie game The Escapists with the worldwide phenomenon that is The Walking Dead, Team17 have taken the very best of both worlds and are now providing players with the opportunity to play Rick Grimes as he takes on hordes of zombies let loose upon the world.

In this unique game, recreated entirely in the charming 8-bit pixel art style of The Escapists, Rick is in charge of a band of survivors featuring many of the original comic book cast. He must secure the safety of the group by seeking out a safe escape route from each area, and manage several dangerous tasks to keep as many of the group alive as possible. The game faithfully matches the timeline of the comics and so as the player makes progress in the game they play through locations that mirror the progress of the band of the survivors taken from the award-winning comic’s epic story.

Daniel Murray, President at Skybound Entertainment said, “Team17 presented a creative plan to blend The Walking Dead into The Escapists and our response was simple.  When do we get started?   The Escapists is a charming example of a single creator’s vision come to life.  We are excited to offer fans of The Walking Dead something different and The Escapists The Walking Dead is just that.  A playful interpretation that we believe fans of great games in general will love.”

Debbie Bestwick, Team17’s Managing Director added, “With well over 600,000 units sold, the award-winning The Escapists is one of the hit indie titles of 2015.   Masterminding your escape from prison is hard enough but how can we make it harder? Zombies.  Remember poor Rick Grimes trying to escape hospital, organise life at a farm or hold up in an abandoned prison? A little bit of awesome 8-bit pixel love later and BOOM! It is great to partner with Skybound and The Walking Dead and we are really excited to ‘escapify’ the amazing, rich and sinister world of Robert Kirkman.”

Team17 will be globally debuting the game at the Walker Stalker Fan Fest in Petco Park, San Diego, California during the 10th and 11th July.

Attendees, roamers and fans will be able to get exclusive first hands-on playable with Rick Grimes in the Harrison Memorial Hospital level.

The Escapists The Walking Dead is scheduled for a 2015 release on Xbox One and PC.

Playstation 4 News: ‘The Wolf Among Us’ and ‘The Walking Dead’ Coming to PS4

TelltaleGamesLOGO

It does seem to be the “thing” now for game publishers to take successful game series from ‘old gen’ consoles like the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 and give them a make over and re-release on the ‘New Gen’ consoles Playstation 4 and Xbox One. But this is one that I absolutely fully support. Telltale games will be releasing their recently big succesful episodic game series ‘The Walking Dead: Seasons 1 & 2″ and “The Wolf Among Us” on the Playstation 4 and Xbox One.

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Currently ‘The Wolf Among Us’ and ‘The Walking Dead: Season 2’ are coming to their conclusion and normally a GOTY version of all the episodes get a retail release on disc. The award winning and original Telltale Games episodic season of ‘The Walking Dead’ will also see a release for Playstation 4 and Xbox One. With two further series from Telltale Games; ‘Game of Thrones’ and ‘Tales from the Borderlands’ to be released soon, it is a great move to see Telltale making their games available to the lucky many who have made the upgrade to the new generation on gaming consoles.

XBLA Exclusive – The Wolf Among Us

From Tell Tell Games, developers of the multi award winning Episodic game The Walking Dead, comes their newest game The Wolf Among Us.

Using the same game engine, visual style and point and click gameplay, once again Tell Tell Games have looked to adapt another comic book series, Fables by Bill Willingham,  just as they did with The Walking Dead. Telling the story of Bigby Wolf, a reformed bad guy with a violent past who has the ability to change form into that of a wolf or a wolf man, as he struggles to choose between his darkside and that of helping to protect other Fairy Tale characters in the world of Fable Town.

The trailer looks as though they will once again follow the source material closely, and once again have the player making choices which will determine how the story progresses , relationships with other characters and no doubt their fate as well. The trailer above has me very intrigued by this, I was a huge fan of The Walking Dead series and really enjoyed its episodic nature, visual style and gameplay.

You can follow news on this soon to premier game via its Facebook Page, no release date as yet but this looks to be another potential award fest title for TellTale Games .

XBLA Review: The Walking Dead 400 Days DLC

The Walking Dead XBLA episodic game was a huge success for Tell Tell Games in 2012, winning multiple Game of the Year awards, it swept across all platforms. It has been a long wait for its first piece of DLC content which comes in the form of 400 Days, priced at 400 MSP from the Xbox Marketplace. But was it worth the wait?

400 Days Launch Trailer

Telling the story of 5 new characters Vince, Shel, Wyatt, Bonnie and Russell and similar to the style of cult movie Pulp Fiction, 400 Days introduces you to each character at different days along the 400 Days timeline.  Using the same playing style and mechanics as the full game, each introduction story will have you controlling each new character, making conversational choices for them which mould that character based on your choices. You can select which story you wish to play through and the order of how you play them does not matter as an Epilogue is used to complete the DLC story which brings all of them together.

As a huge fan of The Walking Dead, I have been waiting and looking forward to this DLC since it was announced. Sadly what this DLC gave me as an experience was quite lacklustre. 400 Days DLC is nothing more then a bridge to the already in development sequel and in this the DLC does its job. The choices you make for each character will set them up as to how they will be in the sequel it seems with the epilogue bringing them all together showing each how each character has developed according to how you played the DLC. Coming in at just under one hour thirty minutes, it is very short compared to the episodes of the main game, and whilst it does give you a nice look into what is planned for the sequel as well as continuing the successful style of allowing you the player to mould the game and characters around the choices you make, I felt quite underwhelmed by it.

I did like how it has given me the chance to shape the story and characters of the sequel, and 400 Days did leave me wanting more, but for the 400 MSP price I did actually expect more game then what it offered. It comes with more Achievements for those fond of collecting gamerscore, with a few extra ones that can be missed depending on what choices you make so will require you to play through those stories again which the rewind option (once you have completed it) allows you to do, by giving you the option to replay each story without restarting the DLC from scratch. Handy if you want to go back and change the conversational and action choices which shape each character for the epilogue. I will warn you, if you do take the rewind option, any characters played after that chapter will need to be replayed as well.

For fans of The Walking Dead looking forward to the next chapter in the series then 400 Days is a must, it is just a shame there was not more to it but it does offer a nice tease for what Telltale Games have in-store for us next with Season 2 of The Walking Dead, scheduled for release late in 2013.
